Tertulia: Chichen Itza
In August we will have a discussion on Chichen Itza, a fabulous ruin in México that dates back to pre-Colombian Mayan civilization. The discussion will be led by Eduardo Guzmán, mainly in Spanish.
En Agosto habrá una discusión sobre Chichen Itza, una ruina fantástica en México que data a la civilización pre-colombiana de los Mayas. La discusión será dirigida por Eduardo Guzmán. La discusión será mayormente en español.
"Treasures about Mexico in Philadelphia"
In the American Philosophical Society there are several documents that can be
seen about the history, languages and culture of Mexico. Roy Goodman will talk
and show some of the documents he knows are very important. Also it will be an
opportunity to meet members of the Friendship Force from Southern New Jersey and
from Comitan Mexico.
En la Sociedad Filosófica Americana hay varios documentos que pueden ser
visto de la historia, las lenguas y la cultura de México. Roy Goodman hablará
y mostrará algunos de los documentos que se consideran importantes. También será una oportunidad de conocer a los miembros de la Fuerza de la Amistad del sur de Nueva Jersey y de Comitán, México.
"Polo Match"
The Mexican Cultural Center collaborating with the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce will like to invite you to a Polo Match to benefit the Swedish Charity World Childhood Foundation. We are also excited to support the Mexican professional polo player, Juan Martinez Baez, who comes from a large polo playing family and has been playing for 17 years all over the USA and will be playing in this match as well.
The proceeds will benefit Swedish Charity World Childhood Foundation.

Estamos también muy contentos de apoyar el jugador mexicano de polo profesional, Juan Martínez Báez, quien proviene de una familia numerosa de jugadores de polo y ha estado jugando durante 17 años en todo los EE.UU. y jugará en este partido también.

Mexican vocalist and composer Magos Herrera, considered one of the most beautiful voices and the most active vocalist of the contemporary Latin American jazz scene, will perform for the second time in Philadelphia, featuring the music from her latest Grammy nominated album, Distancia, on Sunnyside Records and will introduce some of the music for an upcoming recording celebrating the bicentenary of Mexico.
Magos Herrera, cantante y compositora mexicana, considerada una de las más bellas voces y la vocalista mas activa dentro del ámbito de jazz Latino contemporáneo, se presentará por segunda vez en Filadelfia, con la música de su último disco nominado al Grammy, Distancia, de Sunnyside Records y presentará algunas canciones de su mas reciente grabación para celebrar el Bicentenario de México.

"San Mateo Carnavalero"
This parade, also known as Carnaval of Puebla or San Mateo Carnaval, has been held here in Philadelphia every last Sunday of April since 3 years ago. This episode represents our celebration of 5 de Mayo’s battle, where the Mexicans won the French. Around 300 persons participate in this parade with traditional customs and a music band.
Este desfile, también conocido como Carnaval de San Mateo o Carnaval de Puebla, se ha celebrado aquí en Filadelfia el ultimo domingo de abril desde hace 3 años. Este episodio representa nuestra celebración del 5 de Mayo de batalla, donde los mexicanos le ganaron la batalla a los franceses. Alrededor de 300 personas participan en este desfile con las tradicionales costumbres acompañando de una banda.

"Day of the Dead altar at the Philadelphia Art Museum"

Cesar VIveros has been invited to create a Day of the Dead altar at the Philadelphia Art Museum; he will display an altar that could give us an idea of how an altar would have looked like 500 years ago. He got the idea when he was looking at the stairs in the entrance of the museum and it reminded him of the now extinct shape of the "Templo Mayor" in Mexico CIty, a main pyramid at the heart of the great Tenochtitlan (cem- anahuac tlalliyolotl/El corazon del Unico mundo) which among other things, featured two temples, one dedicated to the ancient Rain God "Tlaloc" and another one with a "Tzompantli" facade. .That was his inspiration to do this altar on which we welcome our ancestors, the departed ones...

The Mexican Cultural Center is honored to announce its annual "Ofrenda" (Spanish for offering) to commemorate the Day of the Dead. This year, Priscila Noemi Hernandez, an art student at Camden College is creating the Ofrenda at the Bourse Building on Friday, October 31. You can see the ofrenda from October 30th to November 3nd.

A traditional parade with costumes, music and dancing. Chimino y La Orquesta Zacatepec and DJ Chino will be at the festival.
The parade will begin at the intersection of 9th Street and Wilder and will end at Sacks Park - Washington Avenue and 5th Street.
